We had a guilty pet owner moment this last week. Lucille Ball (Lucy), our antisocial and anxiety-ridden hedgehog was due for some fresh air outside. Seeing how the sun came out to play this week, Nick built her a homemade cardboard cage to enjoy the grass near our front porch.
While editing video inside, I made sure to check on her every 15 minutes or so. During one of the 15 minute editing breaks, somehow Lucy burrowed her way under the box and made a break for the fence to the junk yard on the other side…I know! To my surprise our introverted, anything-but-adventurous hedgie decided to make things interesting 🙂 I mean, whose hedgehog runs away?! We seriously feel ridiculous!
Lucky for me, a few neighbor boys were in our yard (where they often reside to play in our treehouse) to help me look. We searched and searched and searched. One thing about hedgehogs is they like to hide…this was not a good match of hide-n-seek seeing how we literally live next to a junk yard where the places to hide are ENDLESS. Fortunately for us, her anxiety blew her cover. Lucy makes these huffing and puffing sniffing noises when she’s nervous…so it was no surprise that I heard her before I actually saw her little white body when I lifted up a random battered crate. 🙂 Hurray!!
Here she is, in all her glory, enjoying some time in our treehouse after that traumatic afternoon.
Happy to have you alive and well, Miss Lucy!
